Main ingredients

  • Ripe hass avocados. All delicious guacamole starts with creamy avocados. Most often times, local stores sell unripe avocados. The best way to know if they are ripe is to give them a gentle squeeze. If they are hard, then it can take 1-2 days for the ripening process to happen. For best results, store the unripe avocados in a brown paper bag at room temperature. If you add an apple to the brown bag, that speeds up the process more as it releases a gas. The perfect avocado will have nice green flesh and a slight nutty flavor to it with minimal brown spots.
  • Red onion. Sweet onion or white onions can be good as well.
  • Fresh lime juice.
  • Cumin.
  • Kosher salt. (Ok this is technically 5 ingredients but salt is a pantry staple!) A pinch of salt will balance out the acidity of the lime juice.
