Why This Recipe Works

Medjool dates are a staple in the Middle East and are known for their caramel-like flavor. These dates are naturally sweet and are a good source of fiber, making them a perfect base for various dessert recipes. In recent years, dates have become popular in social media as a healthier alternative to refined sugar.

While you can buy any of these ingredients at your local grocery store, I like to get them from Trader Joe’s. Other delicious desserts that are Trader Joe’s inspired are my Flourless Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies and my Easy Fruit Pizza without Cream Cheese.

Ingredients You’ll Need for Dessert Dates

  • Medjool dates, pitted. Dates can be purchased already pitted.
  • Unsalted peanuts. Roasted unsalted peanuts are the best.
  • Dairy free dark chocolate chips. I recommend 72% cacao.

How To Make 3 Ingredient Dessert Dates

Step 1: Prepare the Dates

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Start with preparing the dates by removing the pit if needed. Make sure the dates are room temp.

Step 3: Melt the Chocolate

Place the dark chocolate in small microwavable bowl and microwave in 20 second increments, stirring in between until completely melted.

Step 4: Drizzle

Drizzle the dark chocolate over the dates. Let the chocolate harden for a few minutes. You can set the dessert dates in the fridge to harden.

Storing Leftovers

Store any remaining dates in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Tips for the Best Dessert Dates

  • Personal Preference: You can skip the unsalted peanuts and use hazelnut butter, sunflower seed butter, peanut butter or  almond butter. Cashews and walnuts are delicious too!
  • Added Crunch: For extra texture, try shredded coconut or cacao nibs inside the dates or top with flaky sea salt.
  • Healthier Option: These dates are a great alternative to candy bars like Snickers bars, providing a healthier snack without the added sugar. I like to enjoy them as a pre-wrokout snack or afternoon pick me up.
  • Use Room Temp Dates: This will make it easier when pitting them and opening them up.

Meal Prep Hack: Make a big batch of these and store them in the fridge for the week. Having access to a healthy treat makes life easier when your sweet tooth arises.
