Stuffed Whole Wheat Bread French Toast Recipe

Satisfy your cravings with my Stuffed Whole Wheat Bread French Toast Recipe. This french toast is unique because it uses whole wheat bread and it has your favorite jam flavor sandwiched in between each bite. This fluffy french toast is a delicious start to your day and a great way to get in your whole grains.

1. Using whole wheat bread provides fiber and it’s half the calories of using brioche bread. 2. It uses simple and every day ingredients. 3. The jam filling gives a nice sweetness so you can go light on the maple syrup.

Ingredients: Unsalted butter.   Whole-wheat bread.   Milk.   Large eggs. Cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg.   Fruit jam or fruit spread.   Maple syrup.   Fresh strawberries.

1. In a large bowl, combine eggs and milk. Add in the spices gently combine.

2. Using 2 slices of bread, spread the jam on one side on each slice of bread and then join the bread together like a sandwich.

3. Dip the bread into egg mixture and evenly coat. 4. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter into a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sandwich to the skillet and let it cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Adjust heat to low if needed. Then gently flip over to cook the other side.

5. Remove and let it cool on a sheet pan for a few minutes. 6.Serve immediately with maple syrup or other optional toppings such as fresh berries, whip cream, powdered sugar or additional butter.

Tips: Soak one sandwich at a time and put it directly into egg milk mixture to avoid making it too soggy. Use a shallow bowl like a pie pan as this it easier for the bread to be soaked. You can make this recipe without adding the jam or stuffing it. When I recipe tested, my family and I liked the texture better of having the bread sandwiched as it resembled the thickness of traditional brioche.
